Project TikGirl

This is not a New Year's resolution.

Without Limits posted more photos in their Facebook page! And guess who I found? ME!!! Lol.

Below is my "Before Photo," taken while sending off my beloved Mike.

It wasn't that long ago since we last joined a running event but it definitely felt that way. Maybe because I've not been practicing enough and -- as you can see -- it reflected on the result of my last 10K run for BDO's Race for Life.

In my Runrio and the need for motivation post, I said that I only had the chance to practice once days before the Unilab run. My official time was 1:25:32. This time, I got to practice thrice and got 1:26:12. What is happening to me?

Of course, I can always put the blame to a lot of things. For one, the race did not provide enough hydration station and that celebrity Xian Lim distracted me during my run -- not one, but twice. Hehe. But it would always boil down to one thing: I am not trying hard enough.

I need to push myself harder, most especially if I want to join a 21K run this July. If this laziness and lack of will continues, I won't be able to meet my goal. And that sucks big time.

Generally, I'm happy with how Without Limits organized the event. Kudos to you guys. Though it would have been better if you provided the runners with more hydration station, especially when we're running under this terrible, terrible hot day.

And before I forget, I remember smiling at every photographer I saw during the run. But none of it was on their Facebook page. Sad. But this guy down here got TWO photos!!! Haha.

Bawal umiyak. Bawal gumulong. LOL. Mike during his 21K run
last Sunday for BDO's race for Life.

I ranked 419th out of the 527 runners. Boyfriend Mike and his boss Tito, who joined the 21K run, ranked 302 and 299 out of the 394 runners, respectively. The rest of the race results for BDO's Race for Life is available here.

Got this for making it to the first 500 runners of the 10K category! Woot!

P.S.
I am Janess, not James.
It's been nearly two and a half months since I started Project Tikgirl. A lot has changed -- especially on my eating habits and lifestyle.

But one thing I am most proud of is how I managed to lose weight. It wasn't my sole intention but, of course, it is expected that I will shed off a few pounds when I started this project. And, at least for me, it is also a gauge if I am doing the right thing.

I was 140.2 lbs when I started Project Tikgirl. My friend Cy's digital bathroom scale said so too. During my preparation for the AmCham run, I was down to 138.25 lbs. And, now, I am down to 60.6 kg or roughly 133.32 lbs. WOOT!

I know that the figures are not that impressing -- 6.88 lbs for nearly two and a half months. But, come to think of it, that's still 6.88 lbs! Maybe, if I didn't bother to impose all these troubles on me, I may have gained it instead.

The game plan is to do it slowly but surely.

I have been eating red rice -- a variety of unpolished rice -- for a few weeks now. Or, rather, every time I get the chance to prepare my packed lunch. (Sometimes, I'm soooo lazy to cook I just eat out. Lol) Here's my baon last Monday and Tuesday.

With veggies sauteed in rosemary and shitake mushroom

Longganisa (Hehehe. Okay, that's not very healthy but it's my favorite! Huhu)
Filipinos eat rice everyday. In fact -- due to the country's poor agrarian reform and lack if not absence of support to local farmers -- the Philippines is one of the biggest rice importer in the world. It is so ironic considering that a huge percentage of its population earns from tilling the land.

Anyhow, the mere thought of buying, cooking and eating red rice is far-fetched for most Filipinos. In fact, because red and brown rice are so expensive, I think -- and this is just my conclusion -- that only the rich could afford it.

I, myself, wanted to try it a long time ago. But I found it too expensive. Until I discovered a small store in Cartimar, Pasay City that sells brown and red rice for only P48 to P50 per kilo. And I was like, for real? The price of white rice is pegged somewhere between P38 to P48 per kilo. Not bad, I thought.

A lot of people I know would stop eating rice whenever they want to lose weight. I tried that too. But then after weeks (okay, maybe days) of not eating rice -- I would always go back to its sweet embrace. Partly because it's part of my culture and a routine that I knew since I was still young.

I guess it's a matter of choice on how one would prefer to lose weight. But, I assure you, that eating rice -- when taken moderately and with regular exercise -- will not make you fat.

Red rice is a good source of vitamins and minerals. My Lolo Tony told me it's primarily because of its unpolished husks, where all these fiber and minerals are stored, unlike in white rice or well-milled rice.

Health bloggers -- at least from what I have read in the past -- said that aside from regulating weight, red rice also cleanses the body of toxins and absorbs cholesterol. There are also studies that said red rice is good for diabetic persons and even those with asthma.

I have yet to discover for myself if all these studies are true. So far, it helped me regulate my bowel movement and I noticed that it helped me lessen my cravings, especially during the afternoons -- where all the sinful snacks comes into the picture.

I just hope that red rice will become more accessible to everyone -- for all Filipinos.

It is probably the best run I ever attended. It wasn't that perfect -- at least from the experience of 21K runners -- but for me, it went smoothly.

I didn't know how I would survive the 10K run because I hardly had time to prepare for it, unlike when we were still preparing for 5K runs. Back then, me and my running buddy Shiela would run at least thrice a week. Days before the Run United run, we only had the chance to run once. Imagine?

I need more motivation to run. And to keep up to this challenge I imposed on myself. Hays.
