Project TikGirl

This is not a New Year's resolution.

It was such a lazy Sunday and I wasn't in the mood to cook or prepare food. But I was hungry and I knew I needed to grab something to eat before it's too late. (I have gastritis, you see.)

So the lazy poke in me decided to eat my beef-flavored Nissin cup noodles, which I have been storing in my cupboard for more than two months now. It was given by a friend but I didn't eat it until now. I was hoping I could keep my promise of keeping away from "instant" food -- from canned goods to cup noodles -- which I proudly did for nearly half a year.

I had to learn the hard way that
eating instant noodles is evil.

Well, you probably know by now that I broke that promise, gave into temptation and, now, I am very sorry that I ever did.

I am not feeling well.

I felt dizzy and nauseous minutes after emptying my cup noodles. I am very sure of course that my Nissin was not yet expired when I ate it. It was only when I ate chocolate that I felt better -- don't know if that could be explained scientifically or merely a psychological effect as I call it.

I am feeling better now -- but not yet that well. Enough though to Google what have caused this headache. I found an old CNN report about a study of the Australian Consumers' Association about instant noodles, which states that cup noodles have "as much fat in a single serving of two-minute noodles as there is in a cup of French-fried potato chips or a quarter of a medium-sized pizza."

The same report states that these cup noodles contain "nearly 75 percent of the recommended upper limit of salt for adults and 100 percent of that for young children" while its sodium levels are somewhere between 1,000 to 2,000 mg per serving.

No wonder I was dizzy.

What is equally appalling is that they didn't bother putting all these evilness in the cup noodles' packaging. I may have probably known that instant noodles is bad for my health for years but there are things people forget and they needed to be reminded the hard way.

Such research reported by CNN that warns people of the health hazards brought about by instant food is not the first of its kind. Google tells you there are more. But I wonder how many people are informed about it.

"In the case of instant noodles, we're not just talking about fat, we're also talking about bad fat," pediatrician Tim Trodd told CNN.com. "These noodles use cheap vegetable oil that breaks down as trans fatty acids."

"What you're looking at is essentially a meal with no protein, a lot of fat, carbohydrates, chemicals and salt," Trodd added.

How many mothers know about this? Surely this is something that is not frequently reported or campaigned by the dominant media since most of their advertisers are into this business.

Sad.

We knew it would end up in chaos but we signed for it anyway.

After the 7-11 run, the first thing Mike and Shiela asked was when are we going to run next. On that same day, Mike found out about Cafe France Run for Good Health. We signed up nearly a week later.

Mike said the staff from Karate Kid, where runners can sign up, didn't know a single information about the run. As for the racing kit, very few information was there. There was no website dedicated for it -- aside from the details posted in SwimBikeRun.ph. He warned me that it could turn out to be "chaotic."

We had to wait for more than an hour in the CCP complex for the program to start. The racing kit says we have to be there by 4:00 a.m. but we were told to gather near the arch by past 5:00 a.m. In between, no emcee or any staff from the Cafe France informed the participating runners what time it would start.

The emcee turned out to be stressful. He reminded (no, scolded) the 10K runners for 10 times, both in English and in Filipino, that they need to pass on their second loop in the left side of the road -- not through the Gatorade arch.

It was also difficult to run during the start of the race. We were standing next to each other, shoulder-to-shoulder unlike the 7-11 run, where we were reminded persistently that we needed to be at least one-arm-raised apart.

Everything went well during the run itself. Staff were all around the route guiding the runners which way to go. BRAVO!

But what I didn't like most was the crowd control in the finish line. Runners who finished early were all standing there, blocking the timer. As a result, I didn't get my official time. My watch tells me though that I finished the run somewhere between 42-44 minutes.

Despite this, I am very happy that we joined and finished the run. It was very fulfilling. Plus, I got through Junjun Alas. Hehe.

Task completed.
Presenting my FOTD today -- inspired by a Pin up make up tutorial video I found on YouTube.

Vanity, I know.
Here's how I did it:

1. Apply eye primer
2. Cover lids with light eyeshadow.
3. Apply a darker shade on the crease line
4. A dash of liquid eyeliner (make sure your hand is steady or you'll mess up everything)
5. Reddddd lipstick!

Up close.

I wanted to run this morning. It was, however, raining. But who am I to complain, right?

Many Filipinos lost their homes because of the recent strong rains that brought about heavy flooding in various towns and cities in Mindanao.

Not to mention that most of them were also heavily devastated by Typhoon Pablo last December. The town of Cateel in Davao Oriental is once again under state of calamity.

As far as I know, victims of Typhoon Pablo received a lot of donations both from local and international donors. But, at least based from news I am getting, it seems that victims were not able to get it. They held a protest action the other day but government officials called it as mere propaganda. Yeah, right.

My prayers are with you. Hope these people won't be victimized twice by natural and man-made disasters such as these.

I really hope this gloomy weather will end soon. Of course, aside from my prayers for my fellow Filipinos, I also want to start training for my 5K run on Saturday. I just got my singlet earlier this evening. (Disclaimer: Sorry, I'm too lazy to take a photo of it so I just grabbed the photo above from a site. Hehe.)

I am so excited. Task completed.
It's out! It's out!

The result of the 7-11 800 run is out! And my stats are not that bad for (technically) a first timer.

That's me, Shiela and Em-em in our
finisher's shirt. Proud moments.
(Photo grabbed from Shie's Facebook)
My official time is 42:20. And I ranked 567th out of the 1216 participants in the 5K Beginner category.

I am also relatively faster compared to other women who joined this category. I ranked 175th out of the 512 women.

And, my overall pace is 8:22 per kilometer.

As for my friends Shiela and Em-Em, their official time is 37:37 and 44:43, respectively.

Boyfriend Mike, on the other hand, got 39:17. See, he's just three minutes ahead of me! I remember how he couldn't believe how he was just a few minutes ahead of me, saying I was fast. Whoa. Well. Well. Well.

As for me, task completed.
